The new partnership is just the most recent of several interactions and dealings between Discord and Microsoft as the tech giant was previously in talks to purchase the chat platform for a premium price point of $10 billion. The official post on Discord's Twitter also provides a brief guide to help users claim their two months of Game Pass Ultimate. Recent changes to the Edge browser for Xbox even allow Xbox users to run Discord through their consoles, though it is missing some functions from the standard desktop version. Microsoft is offering a similar promotion for October with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, giving Game Pass subscribers three months of Discord Nitro. Discord users who are subscribed to Nitro can claim the rewards from now through April 26, 2022.

The hugely popular chat app has already decided to phase out the bundle of games it introduced last year as part of its $9.99-per-month (or $99 annually) Nitro subscription service, thus choosing not to compete with Xbox Game Pass, Uplay+, Origin Access, and other offerings. Discord seemingly isn’t the place where people want to go for subscription gaming.
